Why is ChatGPT-4o going viral on trend?

Recently, over 200 million users worldwide have been using ChatGPT for everyday life. ChatGPT is a tool that understands human language even faster than humans. Now, with the natively multimodal GPT-4o, ChatGPT can generate answers in an average of 0.32 seconds, much quicker than a human’s average responding time of 0.4 seconds.

As an all-around chatbot tool, ChatGPT is going viral and becoming a turning point in artificial intelligence(AI). It is indisputable that ChatGPT has taken paramount influence from study and research to work. As a fellow university student, I have used ChatGPT to search for a particular concept or to get a brief big picture when brainstorming. Then, I wondered how ChatGPT works and why they are so trending. Let’s find out all about the trending version, GPT-4o.

GPT-4o is trending due to its significant improvements and wider accessibility compared to its predecessors. Released in May 2024, OpenAI’s latest large language model offers GPT-4-level intelligence to all users, including those on the free tier, which marks a significant democratization of advanced AI capabilities. GPT-4o brings various new features from character design, text to font, image to caricature, 3D object synthesis, poetic typography, lecture summarization, and many more. These improvements, combined with its gradual rollout across various platforms and APIs, have generated substantial buzz in the AI community and beyond, making GPT-4o a hot and trending topic of discussion.

GPT-4o model boasts impressive enhancements, including being two times faster and 50% cheaper than GPT-4 Turbo, while also expanding its language support to 50 languages, according to OpenAI. On the graph attached below, we can see how GPT-4o received the highest accuracy for text evaluation. In the following criteria as well, GPT-4o consistently receives the remarkable highest scores: Massive Multitask Language Understanding (88.7%), General Purpose Open Question Answering (53.6%), Mathematical Problem Solving (78.6%), Human-Level Task Evaluations (90.2%), Multi-Genre Shared Tasks (90.5%), and Discrete Reasoning Over Paragraphs (86.0%).

Another fascinating concept that was added was ‘Language tokenization.’ Tokenization. Another fascinating concept that was added was ‘Language tokenization.’ Tokenization is used in machine learning, meaning ‘converting a sequence of text into smaller parts, known as tokens.’ ChatGPT tokens are the basic units of text processed by the model. Depending on the language and text complexity, they can be characters, words, or word fragments. Tokenization converts raw text into a format the model can use, breaking it down based on predefined rules. This process efficiently handles large text volumes and is crucial for the model’s comprehension and response accuracy.

How tokens became much fewer than in the last version: This means it became much faster to digest the language and generate answers more efficiently.

In a world where AI advancements happen at breakneck speed, GPT-4o stands out as a significant leap forward. It’s as if the AI gods upgraded our digital assistants from “somewhat helpful” to “eerily competent,” leaving us both amazed and slightly concerned about our relevance. But fear not, fellow humans – as long as we can still appreciate a good joke, we’ll always have an edge over our silicon-based friends. After all, GPT-4o may be able to write a sonnet, code an app, and analyze War and Peace in record time, but can it truly appreciate the subtle art of procrastination? I think not! 😉
