The Korea-US Advanced Industry and Technology Cooperation Forum 2024 took place on June 27th in Washington, DC. It brought together leaders and innovators from both nations to discuss cutting-edge technologies and foster collaboration in advanced industrial sectors. This year’s event, themed “Toward a Stronger, Strategic, and Resilient Partnership for Innovation,” marked the third iteration of this critical bilateral gathering.
The forum addressed critical global challenges through the lens of innovative technologies, with a focus on open innovation, digital transformation, and supply chain resilience. A key highlight of this year’s event was discussions on the ‘future of advanced industries driven by A.I. innovations.’
The forum showcased collaborative initiatives, including joint R&D projects between Korean and U.S. innovation agencies. Notable speakers at the event included Dr. Seokwoo Lee, Head of North America Innovation Center at L.G. Electronics, and Mark Lundstrom, Chief Semiconductor Officer at Purdue University. In collaboration with the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy of Korea organized this event to strengthen bilateral partnerships and provide momentum for technological collaboration, particularly involving Korean SMEs and mid-sized enterprises. This collaboration aligns with the broader goal of expanding industrial technology cooperation centers, with plans to establish six centers by 2024 and twelve by 2027, as emphasized by Minister Ahn.
One of the forum’s significant outcomes was announcing the establishment of “Korea-U.S. Industrial Technology Cooperation Centers” at four U.S. universities: Georgia Tech, Yale, Johns Hopkins, and Purdue. This initiative aims to foster closer collaboration between the two countries in advanced technologies.
The forum covered various advanced technologies and their applications in multiple industries. Discussions included A.I., semiconductor technology, and other cutting-edge innovations shaping the future of Korean and U.S. industries.
Overall, the Korea-US Advanced Industry and Technology Cooperation Forum 2024 represented a significant opportunity for professionals, researchers, and policymakers to engage in meaningful dialogue and forge partnerships to drive sustainable growth and innovation in both countries.
