<10 milestones>
- 1. 1950s- Began as a consulting division of ‘Arthur Andersen’, an accounting firm.
- 2. Andersen Consulting was formed independently in 1989.
- 3. 2000, having full independence from Arthur Andersen, ending all ties.
- 4. Later in 2000, founded “Avanade”, partnered with Microsoft. It is a joint venture specializing in Microsoft technologies, which became a key driver of Accenture’s IT service business.
- 5. In 2001, the ‘Accenture’ name was established with the meaning of “Accent on the future”. Moreover, completed one of the largest initial public offerings(IPOs) at the time, raising around $1.7 billion.
- 6. In 2009, the headquarters moved to Ireland, and Dublin became the company’s legal home, aligning with its global operations.
- 7. 2013, Accenture grew the company by acquiring dozens of firms worldwide, including Droga5, Sentelis, and Fjords. This made Accenture an IT service, digital transformation, and creative marketing.
- 8. In 2019, the first woman CEO, Julie Sweet, became the CEO of the company.
- 9. Launch of Accenture Cloud in 2020 with a $3 billion investment over three years.
- 10. In 2023, $3 billion investment in AI over three years. Investing heavily in AI, data, automation, and generative AI.
<Business Model>
Accenture positions itself as a global professional IT consulting firm that helps clients deliver technology expertise(cloud, cybersecurity, digital transformation), industry specialization(finance, healthcare, energy), and end-to-end solutions. There are Strategy consulting, technology consulting, operations consulting, and Accenture Song.
The revenue model of Accenture is global and diversified. There are a few streams, such as technology implementation, marketing services, managed services, and various consulting projects. In FY of 2024, Accenture reported revenue of little over $64 billion with balanced contributions across Europe and North America and growth markets.
<Key success factor>
- 1. Diversified Services on a Global Scale – Accenture is spread over 120 countries, with more than 791,000 employees. Also, its diversified portfolio over technology, operations, strategy&consulting, Accenture Song, and Industry X, they serve clients end-to-end and reduce dependence on any service line or market.
- 2. Strategic partnerships – Positioning itself as “the World’s leading business, governments, and other organizations”, Accenture partnered with Fortune 500 companies. Accenture also has alliances with Microsoft(Avanade), SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, AWS, and Google Cloud as a leading IT consulting firm. These strong partnerships ensure Accenture’s to access the latest platforms and technology trends as a leader in the market.
<My suggestions for future growth>
- 1. Stricter Ethical AI framework establishment: Through collaborating with regulators, universities, and various clients to set global AI framework. While every competitors in the industry is investing in AI, only few guarantee safe AI and therefore can gain credibility and scale to own.
- 2. Expand into Sustainability transition: Develop carbon intteligence platforms that track emissions across supply chains, or to position Accenture as #1 partner for ESG transformation, as their competitive advantage.
- 3. Adapting AI into employee experience: Being global company with over 791,000 employees, providing personalized AI career programs, upskilling pathways would enhance productivity within the company, maximizing profits in long-term.
